While the tool remained internal, the spam kept coming. Jim
forwarded all his personal email to gmail which was pretty
effective at culling spam.
Unfortunately, gmail would
often put useful email into the spam folder so it still had to be
monitored.
Fed up with all the spam, SIMS NET Inc launches the first
iteration. "Alice's Restaurant Anti-Spam Massacre" is born out of
necessity and a love for folk music references.

stuff) here.
Jim starts SIMS NET - the 93rd Internet Provider on the planet
from his living room just outside Charleston, SC.
SIMS.NET signs up hundreds of dialup customers for flat-rate
monthly Internet access at a time when most providers charge
hourly rates.
SIMS.NET registers and hosts dozens of web
sites - with one miscalculation - Jim exposes his personal email
address and the admin and tech contact for each domain
So, he starts getting tons of spam from spammers harvesting email
addresses from the domain registry.
